Addiction Support & Recovery

Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry (American Society of Addiction Medicine). Regardless of the nature of the addiction, an addictive behaviour pattern is one a person finds they are powerless to break, or one that they keep returning to despite their intention not to.

The challenge

  • Decreasing specialist help and treatment in the context of major funding cuts in the NHS and Bristol City Council.

  • An increasing role for mutual aid and voluntary organisations.

  • An opportunity exists for new initiatives to help bridge the gap left by reduced services.
